Merewether's Ryan Callinan will again face defending world champion Gabriel Medina and a wildcard in round one when he resumes his World Surf League campaign at Bells Beach.
The competition window for the Rip Curl Pro, the second stop on the championship tour, opens Wednesday.
Callinan has drawn Brazilian Medina and local wildcard winner Harry Mann in round one, where the top two progress directly to round three and the loser faces elimination in round two.

Medina edged out Callinan 13.84 to 13.57 in their round-one heat at the season-ending Gold Coast Pro two weeks ago but the Novocastrian easily accounted for wildcard Mateus Herdy (7.23) to progress.
Callinan then fell in round three to eventual semi-finalist Jordy Smith 11.27 to 10.53.
Torquay's Mann edged out Billy Harrison for a wildcard in one set of trials on Tuesday. Merewether's Jackson Baker and Morgan Cibilic lost first-round heats of the other trials where Jacob Willcox was the winner.
Callinan was an unlucky round-two loser at Bells in 2016 to Caio Ibelli. His score of 16.43 was third-highest in the man-on-man round.
