There are some great employers in this region with a lot to offer.

Participating in career expos and other workplace learning activities are great ways to learn more about various industries, corporate cultures, future career growth, and, ultimately, how to find success.

There seems to be a perception, particularly among younger groups, that time exploring and investigating careers is best done online.

However, there is much to be gained for both career-seekers, and the companies providing those careers, to participate in and attend career expos.

For students, they can explore career opportunities, meet prospective employers, and practice professional behaviour.

For businesses, career fairs provide an opportunity to identify potential employees and promote their industry more generally.

"Here at North, we've always valued career expos as they allow us to meet young people face-to-face and share, personally, all that working for a medium-sized construction company has to offer," Nicole Redmond, North Corporate Services Manager, said.

"Career expos help the right people not only find the right industry but also the right company within that industry."

Career expos are an important component in the career and life development of young people and having a wide range of employers participating is vital to the economic and social success of our regions.

In fact, industry and businesses should be doing more to engage young people, expose them to career opportunities and help them navigate their journey to success.

North is working hard to be a construction industry leader in this space.

In addition to extensive participation in career expos, North offers both a carpentry apprenticeship and construction management cadet program.

These two offerings are designed to train the future leaders of the business, and with 25% of current North employees made up of either an apprentice, cadet or trainee, they are going above and beyond.

"North has been and always will be heavily invested in the development of people," Matthew Cook, North Managing Director, said.

"Good people and strong relationships, aligned to our values, is the foundation of the company.

"In everything we do here at North, we are looking to build trust in our industry that really doesn't do trust well - that extends to employees, clients and subcontractors."

When you look around the company, it's not hard to find proof that North's values are much more than words written on a flyer.

Testament to this is the fact that more than 50% of all North's employees have only ever worked for the company in addition to North being named Australian Medium Employer of the Year at the 2018 Australian Training Awards.
