NEWCASTLE guard Isabel Palmer is a step closer to competing at a second junior world championships.
Palmer, who is based at the Centre of Excellence in Canberra, is one of 17 players selected in the Australian Gems squad for a four-day training camp in the nation's capital from May 30.
The final squad for the FIBA Under-19 World Cup to be held in Bangkok from July 20-28 will be named at the conclusion.
Palmer helped steer the Gems to a bronze medal at the Asian under-18 championships last November and played at the under-17 World Cup last July.
She was the most valuable player at the Australian under-20s titles in February, where she averaged averaged 18.4 points a game.
Headed to the University of Texas in August, Palmer has averaged 12.5 points for the COE team in the team in the NBL One competition.
Australia take on top seed USA, Hungary and Korea in the group stage at the World Cup. Every team advances to the round of 16.
