Sharnae, who has an intellectual disability, commenced with Job Centre Australia's (JCAL) Choice and Control NDIS program after completing her Year 12 studies.
Keen to gain employment, Sharnae registered for School Leaver Employment Supports and completed a number of work experience placements and other activities.
Building her skills and confidence along the way, she then progressed to the next step in the employment process to gain work through JCAL's Disability Employment Service.
After a short period of time Sharnae was placed into a role with Family Chips, the licensee of McDonald's Swansea.
Supported by JCAL's Disability Employment Services team, Sharnae recently achieved a wonderful milestone, reaching 12 months in her role.
"Working at McDonald's has built Sharnae's confidence and she is beginning to challenge herself further within her role," said Anthony Workman, Operations Manager, Job Centre Australia Ltd.
"She has now been employed for a year and it's a pleasure to see her grow and excel in such a supportive environment."
Family Chips, which owns a number of McDonald's stores across the Central Coast and Lower Hunter region, has proven to be a supportive, inclusive employer, providing opportunities to people of all abilities within the workplace.
"We're always keen to help match our local employers with eager jobseekers who are often simply looking for an opportunity to get their first job, or get back into the workforce," Anthony said.
"We're really proud of what Sharnae has achieved in her time in our program and with Family Chips.
"Not only has she gained valuable workplace experience and skills, working at McDonald's has enabled Sharnae to achieve her some of her personal and financial goals including saving for overseas travel."
Sharnae is a shining example of how JCAL's clear employment pathway program enables eligible youth with a disability access to gain skills and break the barriers that may have been holding them back to employment.
Having both the NDIS and Disability Employment services on offer ensures participants can access a holistic program to develop personal and career potential and a positive employment outcome.
JCAL is a proud "for-purpose" community-based organisation which puts all of its profits back into supporting local people and communities.
