How did you first get into Wheelchair Rugby?
I first got into wheelchair Rugby during rehab after my accident. I have loved sport since I was a kid and always dreamed of one day being able to play at the highest level. At first I didn't want to anything to do with the Sport but as time went on and I got a better understanding of my disability I knew it was a perfect sport for me and has since that day I got involved changed my life.
What/who inspires you?
My family is my biggest inspiration. I have always had an amazing supportive family in anything I have done in my life and they are a huge reason why I always continue to try and be successful in everything I do.
Do you have a particular rival in your event and does that provide further motivation?
Absolutely, USA have always been up there as one of the best teams in the world at wheelchair Rugby and since I began playing for Australia they have been our biggest rival. They are always very competitive and always drive us as a team to be better and to always want to win regardless of the occasion.
What do you do to lift spirits when you aren't achieving the results you want?
It is always about trusting in yourself. As an athlete there is always going to be change in many different aspect like environment, your body, your mentality but always making sure you are finding the positives is the key to maintaining that drive and motivation to improve.
As an elite athlete, what are you most scared of?
Who are you outside of Rugby?
Very different to how I am when I am playing! Quiet, relaxed and very easy going.
What would you say is the take-home message?
No matter what is it you want to do in life, surround yourself with good people, always be positive, work hard and never ever give up and anything is possible.
